[Games] Re: you say you think
This is my daughter Phenix.
You say: "Wow, what a cool name!"
You think: WHAT possessed the poor child's parents to spell it that way? Phoenix on its own is annoying, but bearable... but PHENIX! Oh dear...This is my son Leon.
You say: "I love that name!"
You think: I love that name! This is my daughter Charlie.
You say: "Oh, that's really cool. Is it short for anything?"
You think: It had better be short for something. Charlie short for Charlotte is really adorable -- but Charlie by itself, for a girl... not so good. These are my twin daughters Carter and Elsie.
You say: "Oh. Um -- hi!"
You think: "CARTER and ELSIE?! Not only are they both sort of... um... but they do not go together at ALL. Carter sounds like a boy, combined with Elsie -- and it's so incredibly trendy! UGH. Elsie is somewhat better, but... is it short for anything? Elizabeth? Eleanor? PLEASE let it be short for something. Do not let both poor children suffer...This is my son Kenton.
You say: "Hi!"
You think: Okay. Not my type of name, but I can deal with that. This is my daughter Saphirra.
You say: "Hi! Your name is really cool -- um, how would you spell that?" *whips out sheet of paper and writes it down*
You think: That's not a name. That's not a name at all. It COULD be a name, if it was spelled "Sapphira"... but it isn't. WHY isn't it? Was the poor mother deprived of baby naming books or something? I've got to go look this name up and make sure. This is my daughter Keelin.
You say: "Oh. Um, hello there!"
You think: I CANNOT STAND THESE FALSE-TRENDY NAMES.This is my son Ari.
You say: "Really? Ari? Are you guys Scandinavian?"
You think: It would be so cool if they were Scandinavian! They could teach me bits of their language... if they aren't Scandinavian I'm going to be really disappointed. Especially if it turns out Ari isn't short for anything. That's a short form, not a name, if it doesn't have some kind of cultural appeal. This is my son Ror.
You say: "Sorry?"
You think: Huh?This is my daughter Kenna.
You say: "Hello!"
You think: I can deal with that. Not my favorite, but I don't have any terrible objections.
