[Facts] Re: Greek pronunciation of Phoebe
in reply to a message by Marija Luminitsa
Thank you! Would you give me the modern Greek spelling of Phoebe? I tried to find it on the internet but only got the classic Greek spelling and if you apply that to the chart the name sounds like FOY-vee (modern).
However when I tried the classic Greek spelling with the classic Greek chart I got POY-beh (long e, as in the French é) instead of FOY-bee.

I should really stop trying to answer these kinds of posts so late at night haha.
Phoebe is spelled the same in Modern Greek (Φοίβη) and οι is pronounced as ee in Modern Greek. Phoebe is closer to FEE-vee in Modern Greek.
Yes, you're right, it is POY-beh (but with more of an H sound after the P sound, but not like F) in Classic Greek. Oh, I just found someone pronouncing it here: http://www.forvo.com/word/%CF%86%CE%BF%CE%AF%CE%B2%CE%B7/
Anyway, I hope that helps.

And one more correction... Daphne is THAHF-nee in Modern Greek.
I Agree with you Marija , toi de acuerdo o sea DAPHNE es THAHF-NEE
