[Opinions] Galen? (I'm in love!)
I hate asking this, but do you think Galen is usable these days? I remember back in high school, getting odd reactions to liking the name Gabriel (it's 'girly' and sounds 'gay')...it's ridiculous, but sadly, just because I think Galen is handsome, doesn't mean people aren't going to be ridiculous. Do you think I'm overthinking it or are people...well, ridiculous? Aside from that, wdyt of...Galen Patrick ('calm nobleman'?)
Galen Jude (I'm a Beatles fan)
Galen Noah (off the top of my head ... I'm leaning more toward Galen Patrick)Thanks :)eta: while I'm posting, do you think Ivy Winter is too 'cold' a combo? :) eta: Yeah, I've decided that it is...but I'll still leave this question here.

I don't know about teasing- I knew a Galen in high school, and he was never made fun of for his name- but as with all names, whether or not you get mercilessly teased depends on whether people think you will put up with it or not. It is an intensely cool name, and the Galen Jude combo is fantastic.

Um..I love Galen. I think it's extremely handsome and quite usable. Galen Jude is fantastic.

I really like it, but beware. My friend's brother whose name is Galen started failing all his classes in fifth grade because people bullied him about the "Gay" sound at the beginning of his name. He had to start going by his middle name (Roderick 'Rick'). Galen Jude and Galen Patrick are good. Galen Finn, Galen Flynn, Galen Micah, and Galen Alastair are some others I though of. Ivy Winter is great! It is very cold, but not "too" cold.

First of all, I love the combo Galen Patrick. Second of all, do I think people will act ridiculously towards Galen? Inevitably and unfortunately...yes. :(

I love Galen, and I would say it's usable. Yes, people are ridiculous and shallow, but Galen still might be decently recieved given how mainstream Gabriel, and Caelan with all its obscene variants, have become. There was a kid named Galen at my high school, actually, and though I didn't know him particularly well I never heard of him getting picked on for it. I say use it. All of your combos are fantastic, also. :)To me Ivy Winter screams "adorable!" rather than "cold", though I can see how it could appear elsewise. I like it, in any case.

Galen Patrick is easily the best combo.
However, I think the "gay" part will elicit much teasing, sadly.
And I find these unisex-ish names ending in "len/lan" (even the ones I kind of like) sound fairly feminine. I just think there's a lot of potential to hear "lynn". Not just for Galen, but Kalen, Jalen, Caelan, Keelan, Rylan...

It has teasing potential, but kids will find a way to make fun of other kids no matter what. I like Galen. My step-dad has a fishing buddy named Galen. He's a doctor and is very friendly. It makes me think of him. Galen Patrick is fantastic!

Maybe in the US, but not here since "galen" is the swedish word for "crazy". But I like it on someone from the US, Canada, Australia or such.
Galen Noah and Galen Jude are my favorites.

Honestly......yes, I think the name is unusable. It sounds very feminine to me, so to hear a combo like Galen Patrick throws me for a loop. Maybe for a girl it wouldn't sound so strange, but for a boy? Nah. I'm just not feeling it.Also, he would be teased for the obvious reason. I'm not saying it's right, and I know most kids get teased for something, but I'm just saying with a name like this, it would be inevitable. The world kind of sucks that way, but there are jerks everywhere.

I like - totally usable to me. I don't think it's girly at all. Galen Jude is awesome, btw.

i wouldnt hate galen that much except for the fact that i actually knew a galen in college, and he hated his name very much. he said that he always called gay-len, plus people thought his name was a madeup jaylin variation.

I definitely think it's usable. I've always been surprised that it isn't more popular because it definitely has the sound to fit right in with the trendies. The only Galen I know is my age, but I have seen it in a few BAs so maybe people are catching on.I think Galen Patrick is a really nice combo. And Ivy Winter is pretty cold. Since Ivy is very Christmasy to me, it's like seasonal name overkill.

BAs? Ohh, that makes me do happy dances. Thanks, I was leaning toward that combo :)Ohhh, see, I'm in the southern hemisphere, so Christmas is summer but it still felt a little cold to me, too. Thanks :)eta: You're right re: trendies sounds; I thought 'it rhymes with Kalen', a name I do like but not enough.
