The first thing that comes to mind is gluteus maximus, which is a muscle in your butt. The association is too strong for me. What about Massimo?

Maximus is nmsaa. It sounds too superlative.

I really like Max as a name on its own, but Maximus is a tad too Gladiator for me. I don't like Maxwell either, I can only think of the coffee. But just Max - yes!!!!!

It's a bit too...forceful maybe? Max is ok but Maximus is a bit much. It has a cool sound but it's just hard to picture on a little boy or even a teenager or young man. At least he could go by Max. Maximus seems better suited for a book or movie character.

I really dont like it, looks and sounds too much like maximum :/ I prefer Maxim, Maxime, Maxandre, Maxence, but I prefer them on a girl :)
