In the middle of the fuss and excitement about the nearing birth of their first child, unsettling news reaches Darcy and Elizabeth: Elizabeth's mother is suffering from a dangerous illness. After a couple of precarious weeks, however, Mrs Bennet recovers against the doctor's prognosis. That weight off their minds, Elizabeth and Darcy welcome their first baby, a little girl. Elizabeth, who has become obsessed with greek myths, insists on naming her Cynthia after the byname of the goddess Diana. As a middle name they agree on Georgiana after Darcy's little sister of whom they're both very fond of. Of course the newly-minted aunt is thrilled about their choice.
Cynthia is a sweet girl, adored and spoiled by everyone. From the day of her birth, everybody who looks at her insists that she's Elizabeth's spitting image; Elizabeth herself believes that Cynthia has the Darcy nose, a thought that will proof to be true as the girl grows up.
