I like itThe more I see it the more I like it. It's nice and cheery without being cheesy; for a three letter name it manages to still have some substance. While I like Joy, I love Joyce. It's one of those female names that is just so cool and handsome instead of being pretty, if you follow.

It's my mother's middle name. I've always liked it. I went to high school with a Joy as well.

YesIt's so bright, uplifting, and sweet.

sort ofIt's in-between category from word names that are so common that they don't feel like word names anymore (eg Grace) and those that are so uncommon that they feel too much like words and not names (eg Justice).I guess it's a nice name, though I can't help thinking, as usual: "but what if she turned out to be clinically depressed"?

There's help for that now... and there needs to be something to brighten ones depression... A good dose of joy is a good thing.

Yeah, I know, but I have this issue with word names that I can't help imaginging situations where they'd look silly, such as a clinically depressed Joy, a really unfair Justice, a mean and selfish Charity and so forth.

I went to school with a girl named Charity who was not nice at all. In fact, she was kind of a bully, but it didn't make me think that she should have had another name. I don't see word names as something the person has to be.

Neither do I, but it doesn't stop me from imagining situations where the person might display traits opposite to their name.

Yes I do actually. I've always thought it was quite cute and sweet.

Yes! moreI've always enjoyed Joy, and given enough daughters would have used it contentedly. My daughter has a Joy friend who is delightful and adds to the meaning ... though I must admit I've known a quiet, gloomy Joy and also a brash go-getter Joy who resembled a runaway steam roller. But nothing shakes my affection for it.

I do.I prefer it as a mn though or as part of a double fn. I have to admit, I have a soft spot for the double fn Joy-Anna but it is very Duggar-ish :(

yep... works well as a mn, but also ok as a fn... a friendly acquaintance of mine is Joy Megumi S_______.

I do like Joy! My fondness for it intensified when I met a studio art major named Joy who is beautiful and kindhearted and brilliant and gloriously reminiscent of Chloe Sevigny.

I'm pretty neutral about it. I don't hate it, and I don't love it. I don't feel sorry for anyone who has this name, but I don't like it enough to use myself.

No! I work with a Joy, and she's not the most pleasant person to work with.
