[Opinions] Annette
For as long as I can remember, I have planned to have Annette as the mn of my first daughter. It is my Nana's name and my Nana is the most incredible woman I know and honouring her is extremely important to me.I was reminded today though how truly extraordinary my grandmother is- courageous, strong, clever, sassy, loving, kind- and all of a sudden I don't feel like Annette should be relegated to the mn position. If I ever have a daughter one day (and can talk my SO around to it), I think I'd actually like to name her Annette.So- WDYT of Annette? I know it is somewhat dated but do you think it would work for a little girl today?I think I'd call her Etta for short but what nickname would you pick? My Nana gets Anne or the occasional Annie. ETA: Combo suggestions would also be awesome. I'm really struggling- nothing seems to sound good with Annette as a fn :(

I like it a lot and think it would make a great first name. It's not common enough to sound dated to me, and there's something very fresh and crisp about it. The only Annette I know goes by Nettie, but I don't really think it needs a nn.Annette Caroline

It doesn't seem too dated to me. The only person I've met with this name was an older lady (about in her late 40s or early 50s), she mostly goes by Annie though.

I like it as a first name. A friend of mine is Annette. She hated her name as a kid when she was in PE with all the "Do you have a net?" jokes.Annette Michelle

I like the underused-ness of Annette, but I love the backstory! Use it, it's not too dated I don't think.
Any of those nicknames are cute: Anni, Ann, Etta, etc. I thinks Netts would be cute too.

I think Annette is a little dated, and very Mickey Mouse Club. The plus side, though, is that she would probably be the only Annette in her class. I would use the NN's Anna or Annie; I never liked Etta, because it's more of a sound than an actual name, IMO.Combo suggestions:Annette Rose

I understand it's meaningful to you, but I'm not a huge fan of most-ette names or names that are "technically" nicknames. Still, there are worse names out there, so use it as a fn if you feel so inclined.I must say I find Etta horrible, though. I'd prefer Annie as a nn.

Annette is absolutely gorgeous! It is strong, yet it is feminine, and extremely sophisticated and elegant. Very beautiful. It is unique, but not foreign to any one's ears. I think it's amazing that you are honoring your grandmother by naming your daughter after her... that is so great! Baby Annette will have a wonderful namesake - her great grandmother :) Sounds like she is a lovely lady!Btw, Etta is an adorable nickname!

LOVE Annette. Always have...
Hasn't been overused enough to be dated. Like it just the way it is w/out nns.
Have thought for years that Jocelyn Annette is rather pretty (she could go by her mn and that would be fine).hmmmm... what else could fit? choose for yourself fn or mn:Chiemi (chee-ay-mee... accent on 1st syl)

I'm neutral about it. I don't love it or hate it. I think it would work fine on a little girl today, and would be preferable to many names that are popular. Your daughter's name would stand out without being weird, odd, or strange, and that's always a good thing.I can't say that I care for Etta as a nickname. I don't think that Annette needs a nickname. It's only two syllables, and many people with two syllable names, including myself, don't have nicknames.
