A less-common fn with a common nn is perfectly fine. Sometimes the common nn makes the less-common fn more "palatable." A spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down, eh?
Alexene "Alex" -- Alexene looks odd to me. Alexina would have pleased me more. Alex is OK as a nn, although I prefer it on a boy.
Joselle "Josie" -- I'm not a fan of the nn Josie. But it's miles about the contrived Joselle. What a forgettable concoction that is. I would have prefered Josephine / Josepha ("jo-SEF-uh"), Jocasta or Jocelin as the formal name.
Elaina "Lainey" -- The Elaina spelling must be catching on. That saddens me a bit. I love Elena (elegant and regal) and like Elaine (Arthurian romance associations). The Elaina spelling looks like the two spellings mushed into one. Nn Lainey is cute.
