[Opinions] Re: Laurence+
I think it's close enough to Lori; not too many ways to get closer, are there? Although I do love Lorne. Then again, I know Loris/Lauries who get testy about being mistaken for Lauren, etc., and vise versa. So maybe it would be more of a little point of annoyance than honoring. ;-)I like Lauritz, though I think I am visually leaning toward Laurits. Although then it misses the point of Ritz. :-/ For the long O sound I might personally consider Loritz. I don't know much about Danish pronunciation but with my little German speaking ability I look at Lauritz and see "LOW-ritz" instead of "LAWR-itz." The Dutch Maurits' pronunciation key is MOW-rits. That's just what I see for the 'au' combination in similar names, though again, I don't know about Danish. I love Lawrence to pieces. It's so handsome and manly. :-D My favorite combos for it have long been Lawrence Douglas, Richard Lawrence, and William Lawrence. I have a friend Wade Lawrence; while I didn't need any encouragement for Lawrence, it has definitely made Wade less dorky and more capable of being attractive than it was before to me!I wouldn't choose Laurence myself but I don't have a problem with it. Kind of like Elizabeth vs. Elisabeth for me: while I have a preference, I don't think the other takes away from the name.

Thanks! Yes, the fact that Lauritz is Danish is a little tricky - I would say it like "Lorrits", and it would trouble me if I was saying it incorrectly. I know a Danish girl - I'll ask her!
