[Opinions] Help with Russian family in story
It's not so much a family as a broken family; here's the scenerio: the main character falls in love with this russian man Vladimir Orlov, who has seperated from his wife after the death of their young daughter. I can't decide on names for the wife or daughter, here's what I have so far for the wife: (and the nn are optional too)
Anastasiya (Nastya)
Mariya (Masha)
Svetlana (Lana)
Yekaterina (Katya)
Yelena, Elena (Lena)
Nataliya (Natasha)
and for the daughter:
Mariya (Masha)
Ludmila (Lyuda) -- means love, and I thought that might be symbolic
Nadezhda (Nadya)
Liliya (Lilya)
Oksana
Dariya (Dasha)
Nataliya (Natasha)
ALSO, the main character ends up having a child by Vlad without his knowledges, she's married to someone else, and it's all a big secret. I was thinking of having her name her child--a girl--after Vlad's dead daughter. What do you think of that idea? a bit much?
Thanks!

Very nice names.
Just a note about Oksana, it's a Ukranian name, so you won't hear it a lot in Russia unless you're close to the Ukraine-Russia border. Though, if you're story takes place in a town close to the border, I suppose it wouldn't be at all strange to have a character names Oksana. :)
Here are the name combinations that I like for the characters:
Vladimir
Yekaterina nn Katya
Mariya nn Masha
Vladimir
Aleksandra (I know you didn't have this name listed, but a Vladimir and an Aleksandra just kind of "go" together for me)
Mariya nn Masha
I don't think it would be too far-fetched to name the main character's child after Vlad's deceased daughter if she had a more common name, such as Mariya. Perhaps instead of calling her Mariya or even Masha, you could use another pet form like Marishka, Marichka or Mashenka.
A couple of other name suggestions: Irina and Zinaida.
Let us know what you decide! :)

_____
Anastasiya (Nastya) -Don't really care for it, and Nastya is nasty-a.
Mariya (Masha) -Like Masha, but loathe Maria no matter how you spell it.
Svetlana (Lana) -Hate it!
Yekaterina (Katya) -Love it!
Yelena, Elena (Lena) -LOOOOVE it, but not Lena
Nataliya (Natasha) -LOVE it!
My favorite is Nataliya nn Natasha, or Yelena / Elena nn Lena.
and for the daughter:
Mariya (Masha)-See above
Ludmila (Lyuda) -Absolutely hate it
Nadezhda (Nadya) -Ditto
Liliya (Lilya)-Very pretty
Oksana -Hate it
Dariya (Dasha) -Ditto
Nataliya (Natasha)-Love it!
My favorite is Nataliya if you don't use it for the daughter, and then Liliya.
Mariya (Masha) -Like Masha, but loathe Maria no matter how you spell it.
