Was just thinking of Beverly and how uncommon it is these days on young children. I think the youngest Bev I know is in her 20s.
Would you prefer it on a boy or a girl? (originally on boys, but switched over to girls)
Would you spell it Beverly or Beverley?... or would you modernize it and spell it Beverleigh and potentially cause some of the BtN folk people to cringe just at the thought of such?
What do you think would go well w/ it these days?
First thing that popped into my head was Beverly Mildred which I think would totally date a person.

I always expect it to be Beverley with an -e-; I take this to be the British version, and the -ly one the American. I've got personal issues with the only Beverley I've ever known well, but i suppose there's nothing wrong with the name itself. Definitely a girl name; probably something one-syllabled would balance it, depending on the ln of course.
Beverley Joan is pleasantly retro.

I was just thinking about this name last night! and how refreshing it seemed, like a tall cool glass of liquid. I like it on a girl, I think it's too far gone to be a boy's name. I think... I like it like Beverly, though Beverley is ok too.

I think it has a lot of hipster appeal. I'd pair it with something fun and offbeat, like:

Beverly Zelda
Beverly Jude
Beverly Kit
Beverly Maud
Beverly Tess
Beverly Cleo
Beverly Cora
Beverly Iris
Beverly Nell
Beverly Nora
Beverly Violet

I'm not crazy about the nn Bev - there is something so overbearing about it, like a big fat lady looming over you, but I guess, what else could you use?

My bro calls a friend of the fam Bevermaly... doesn't shorten it, but it's just a silly thing he does.
I find Zelda very GPish, but the combo is fun.

I like Beverly. It's 100% a girls' name, history notwithstanding.

I prefer the Beverly spelling.

I think Beverly Mildred is indeed dated, and a bit ugly, so here are some alternatives:

I am all about the name Everly these days I don't know what it is about Beverly that sounds like a waitress at a greasy spoon but Everly doesn't?

I know! I am ashamed to admit it! But still, I prefer it so much to Beverly that I love it! I don't know where things have gone awry with me, liking this name! For shame!
