[Opinions] Jinx?
Sorry for two posts so close together guys!I have these totally awesome old "Family Circle" magazines from the 50's that my great-grandmother gave me, and they have some pretty neat vintage names in them occasionally. One recurring one is Jinx, or Jinxy, who was some kind of editorial contributor I think. At first I did not like it, but now it is growing on me - of course, it helps that it's in such a neat retro context. What do you think of Jinx as a name? Would you prefer it as a pet name? If so, what full name would you derive "Jinx" from, if any?

My friend has a character/alter ego named Jinx (occasionjal nn Jinxy) who is a cat/cat-person. So it's sort of a cat name to me, but that one person is all I sould think of. It could be cute as a nn for something like Jasmine (okay, that's a bit of a stretch) or some othe J name that isn't quite spunky enough for the bearer.

I don't like it. Jinx means bad luck. It is also a Pokemon that has gotten a lot of contraversy.

controversial pokemon?....how on earth can a pokemon be controversial?I love things that mean "bad luck"

It was because the original pokemon sort of looked like a person wearing blackface. Its color got changed to purple but it still looks a little sketch.

I like it only as a nickname or a pet name (there's a band called Jinx in Croatia, btw).
I guess it could be a nickname for Virginia or any other name that has jin/gin in it. Oh, and my name book has it listed:-)

ohh what kind of band are they? (OT)I would love to get into listening to Croatian music. I love music from other cultures. What would you reccomend?

OTA couple of songs by Jinx:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8y29E2tZvt0&feature=related I'd recommend looking up:
Gibonni (I'm his big fan!):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nd80Mqj5qrM / http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVPJjHVJF5w -same song one version in Spanish

Nina Badrić, Boris Novković (mostly pop/rock).
But not many have songs in other languages, so it's hard to follow. I mostly listen to foreign music. What kind of music do you like?

Oh my, Poke'mon were around in the 1950'sNow, I want a time machine! I am just pulling some legs. Jynx is the Poke'mon, Jinx is a person. Since it sounds the same, I don't like it for human usage.

A good name...for a cat. On a person, it sounds unlucky and ominous.

I love unlucky and ominous names!

"Hi Jinx!"It's very eccentric and I wouldn't want to be named it, but I am not all that down on it, really. It's alright ... for your kid, maybe, not mine.I agree it could arise as a nickname for certain bearers of Virginia.

I think I'd rather be a Minx than a Jinx! and I'd probably prefer Jinty, which seems equally retro. But it's a fun find, and it would be cool to come across it as an nn for, say, Virginia.

I think Jinx would make a great pet name. I also think it would make a distinctive first name, but I don't think I'd be brave enough to use it on a son/daughter of mine!

I'd prefer it as a pet name in that it's only one letter away from being a Pokemon's name. (Jynx) The other spelling (Jinx) reminds me of a video game character by the same name.On a person, it's kind of retro-chic, I suppose, not sure in what wway though...
