It's sturdy and intelligent and rather distinguished. The first associations I had were Herman Melville, Herman Wouk and Hermann Hesse, so it also sounds very literary - but then there's also Herman Munster. :D
I guess you could wriggle the meaning around a bit and have Herman as his own personal army. Someone who forges ahead bravely, taking no crap and winning his personal battles. Rar!
Great combos, as usual. Herman Achille is really handsome. I also like Herman Julius, Herman Lazslo, Herman Ludovic, and Herman Thibault.
