I wouldn't say it's specifically kre8tive... just that in certain languages that would lean more towardes the belle ending, they'd tend to double the l and in Span., where they'd tend to just have 1 n, they'd also tend to have just 1 l and no extra e. Annabel also lookes weird to me. Anabel feels like somethings missing, but it's ok because that's prob'ly due to having more of a Fr. feel for "belle" names. Annabelle feels most complete.
The history of it also causes Anabel to make sense for sp.
