Message: "Joaquin" - Behind the Name

I've never given Joaquin much though before (mostly because I've never met anyone with this name and was never sure how to pronounce it), but I've been watching Live with Regis and Kelly lately and she mentions her son Joaquin a lot (pr. hwah-KEEN), so I've started to like it. They use Quino (pr. keeno) as a nickname.

So what do you think of Joaquin and the nickname Quino? Any combo ideas?

ETA: After recent discussions about how the same names are always discussed on the board (I admit I'm guilty as everyone else), I've decided to post regularly about names that I like and that we don't see here often.

I like Joaquin a lot! The nickname is not really my style and I don't think Joaquin needs a nickname. I'm not in a combo making mood at the moment, sorry for that.

Great, I'm looking forward to those posts! Onto Joaquin, I LOVE it, it's so handsome and unique, I think it's very cool. I do think of Joaquin Phoenix and that makes me like it even more because he is (or was *sigh*) soooo handsome!

I don't think it needs as nn, it's short enough when said aloud.

I love it

I think it is so cool. My only concern would be that people would constantly mispronounce it. Quino is a cute nn but I prefer Joaquin on its own. Joaquin is unique, and I love the sound of it and the Spanish origin.

I like this name a lot but I much prefer the underused Joachim - the English pronunciation is much nicer than the Spanish one, which to me feels forced a person without a hispanic background.

Quino is a very cute nickname. I also like Kim and (for the English form) Jock or Joey.

I've loved Joaquin ever since I heard of Joaquin Phoenix. His name is Joaquin Raphael and I love that.

I quite like Joaquin. My cousin has a son named Nino Joaquin. However, I don't like the nn Quino

Very neat name. And I LOVE the nickname Quino. That's the firt time I've heard that and it's too cute. Joa would be fun too, I think. My cousin's middle name is Joachim and I've always thought it was a great middle name, but maybe it's too great to hide away in the middle.
I'd stick with a simple short middle name like
Joaquin Luke
Joaquin Paul
Joaquin Thom
Joaquin Saul

I like it because it's River Phoenix's brother's name.

Plus, the look is really cool.
