[Facts] Bai
What is the meaning of this east Indian feminine name: Bai? Thank you.

Bai is not a name but a rural way to address a female in a respectful manner in traditional Rajasthani families. People in Rajasthan would rather call their female members bai than calling them by name or other way to address like mother, daughter, sister etc (wife not included. However, Indian women of older generation used to add Bai or Devi to their names like Rukamini bai, Kamla bai, etc.

Are you sure it is a *name* from India? I haven't heard it there.
The word bAi is used in India often as the last part of a name, or as an honorific title. It also has the connotation of a dancing girl in some other circles. The etymology is from Turkish bAjI which again is used as an honorific or meaning elder sister, but since I know no Turkic, I can't tell you more.
