My tongue is softer in my mouth when I say Katie, than when I say Kady, but they sound very nearly the same as I say them out loud. (Western U.S.)That said, I do not consider them to be the same name, or interchangeable. When I see Kady in print, I make particular effort to pronounce the "d" (I was taught to read phonetcially before I ever started school). I would not assume it's an alternate spelling of Katie, but perhaps a feminization of Cade/Kade or a made up name. Don't know if this extra bit of info helps you, but there it is. :)
