Eight years has passed for the Barrett-Kirkbride family, bringing three children and one dog! After years of trying with no success, Callie and Nate find themselves expecting fraternal twins, and name them Otto Blaise and Adelina Isabel. Rohan is a model big brother. Liam and Dan, after considering using a surrogate, decide that adoption is the most socially responsible choice, and adopt a 14-month old little boy named Ivan Alexei. They decide to keep his name unchanged, and he is now a bright, well-adjusted three year old. James and Emily, still not quite ready for children, adopt a 1 year old cocker spaniel mix, who, although he is not the sharpest tool in the shed, is full of personality. They name him Fallstaff, after the bawdy and beloved Shakespeare character.
