[Opinions] Carolann
What do you guys think of Carolann? Mostly, what do you think of it spelled this way. I'm trying to decided between this and Carol-Ann. I'm leaning more towards Carolann though. I worry that it looks kind of strange though. Personally, I don't think it does but I know that has a lot to do with the fact that I've been thinking a lot about it and have gotten used to it. So what are your thoughts on the spelling? And for the heck of it, what do you think of the name in general?Edit- I want to add that I would be honouring a family member with this name whose first name is Carol and middle name is Ann.

It sounds dated, but it's not bad. I would go so far as to say it's pretty. Much better than Carol on its own, which I don't care for at all. I prefer the spelling Carol-Ann. If it's Carolann, I suppose you'd have a middle name. But if it's Carol-Ann, would you consider Ann to be the middle name, or would Carol-Ann be the first name, and then you'd have another name as the middle name?

If I chose Carol-Ann, I would also have a separate middle name to go with it. I see hyphenated first names as just one name.

Well, I like the two names (my mom is Caryl Ann), but I feel like some people might be inclined to pronounce Carolann kind of like Carolyn. Personally I like it as two separate words, Carol Ann. I have a friend named Carolanna (named for her 2 grandmothers).

I never like Ann with no E on it. It looks ... I dunno. Incomplete? to me.I'd spell it as one word if I have to choose between Carol-Ann and Carolann. I'd even more prefer a double first name Carol Ann (which is more honoring in a way, but IMO to honor you don't need the middle name unless you knew her as Carol Ann and not Carol). If I don't have to worry about honoring, I'd rather be Carolanne, though, or better yet, Carolane (I couldn't care less if I had to correct people's pronunciation, and I would even consider pronouncing it cair-uh-lawn).

The person I would want to honour only went by Carol but frankly...I don't really like Carol. Not on its own anyway. I see what you're saying about Ann looking incomplete and while I'd rather use Carolann, I'm not completely opposed to Carolanne/Carolane. I'm on a quest to find different ways of spelling this. Thanks :)

I know a CarolannShe is a hoot and a half! Maybe I love the name just because of her, but I think Carolann sounds (and looks) way better than Carol-Ann. With the latter, it makes me stop in the middle, so it's an awkwardly stilted "Carol...Ann."Huh. They both look funny now. Ever looked at a word long enough for it to start looking weird? Maybe I'm just weird. I dunno. Anyway, I like Carolann.

Haha, yeah I keep going back and forth between thinking Carolann looks good, and looks weird. You make a good point...I didn't really think about the pause that is sort of implied with Carol-Ann. It sounds too much like two sepratate names which I don't want. Thanks :)

Go to the light...sorry, all I can think of is Carol Ann from the movie "Poltergeist." It's pretty though; I'd probably spell it Carolann--it reminds me of Turlough O'Carolan the blind Irish harpist.

lol I thought of that too BUTI love it as a name solely because of the movie connection. I love things that are quirky and a little spooky, and Carol Ann makes the list.

Ha haThat movie came out the year I was born (1982). My name is a smushed name with "ann" on the end, and the first part is similar in sound to Carol. People thought I was named after the movie character, and I remember a few times where I told someone my name and they said, "Isn't that the little girl in Poltergeist?"

I thought the same thing!

I didn't mention it in my original post but I edited it in, this would be an honouring name so the reference doesn't bother me. Actually, I've never seen the movie and wasn't even aware of the character! lol

I really like it. I like Carol and I like double names and Carol-Ann (I can't decide what spelling either) is really cool.

Well, Carollan is a male name to me, so for a girl I'd spell it Carol-Ann.
