[Facts] Help With Pronunciation!!
Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help me out with the pronunciation of the following names? It would be very much appreciated.
Amarante - is it just simply ah-MAR-ant? or AH-mar-ant? or ah-mar-ANT? or something different?
Evadne - is it ee-VAD-knee (VAD rhyming with BAD) or ee-VOD-knee (VOD rhyming with FRAUD) or ee-VADE-knee (VADE rhyming with MADE). I always tend to say the second version although I have a hunch that it's really the first ...?
Elijah - I say it ee-LIE-jhah (soft j), but BtN has it as ee-LIE-zha (as in Eliza?) and I've also heard it as ee-LIE-jah (with a hard j sound).
Elisha - same as Elijah, I've heard multiple pronunciations. Does any one know if there is a more correct one? There is an Elisha and an Elijah in the bible, and at mass today even our priest was having trouble with it. Help, anyone?
And I think that's it for now.
Thanks in advance,
Mika

okay, thanks! When you say "eh-VAD-knee" what sound is the "eh" part? "Ay" (like Canadians say it) or "ehh" with a softer sound?
Well, with my English accent, it's kind of like 'ih' (as in the sound that the letter I makes). With an American/Canadian accent, I think that translates as 'ehh' (soft sound).
