Though Leo and Violet had planned on havng children soon when they were married, afterwards they talked it over and decided to wait a year or two, perhaps even until they were out of college, until they were in a better financial situation. But when Violet found out she was pregnant only a few months after they married, they decided at once to keep the baby. They sat down and very early planned arrangements. They decided that they would both take as many online classes as they could, and they would schedule the classes they couldn't take online so they wouldn't conflict. That way they wouldn't have to hire a babysitter or pay for daycare. They also talked to a financial aid advisor about scholarships they could get as married parents. They considered giving up their sandwich-cart business, but in the end it was decided that Leo would still run the sandwich cart so he could keep the baby with him while he worked while Violet took a part-time job as a copy editor for one of the Temple campus newspapers, which added enough to theri incomes for them to be prepared when little Eliana arrived. They chose her first name to honor Violet's Italian heritage, and her middle name to honro Violet herself. They liked the idea of their daughter having a name that, like Violet, was both a color and a thing in nature. Eliana Sky arrived on a beautiful day in spring, not long after the semester ended. As soon as she arrived, neither Leo nor Violet could imagine why they had been so worried. El, as everyone called her, is in their opinion the absolute best baby in the world and they are so happy they almost don't realize how broke they usually are!
