I say it "GAY-vree-el" - basically, like Gabriel with a v. I like it, it has a nice imaginative, slightly chivalrous air to it. I prefer Gavriel over Gavril.

There is a writer of fantasy stories named Guy Gavriel Kay that is quite prolific. I've never read his stuff, but I see his books for sale very often so I associate Gavriel with fantasy.
