I've always liked it for its Norman-French toughness; and when we got a rescue dog her name was Matilda and we kept it. She's a wonderful little pooch, known affectionately as Matt the Mutt. So it doesn't sound totally human to me at present, but it used to. Matilda Frances is lovely.
