[Opinions] Errol for a....girl?
I was talking to my mom about names this morning, and mentioned I like Errol as a way to honour my late uncle, Derrol (I wouldn't use Derrol in full because my awful grandfather also had the name). I told her I like Errol for a boy, or Dora (after a nickname he used) for a girl. She hated Dora, but loved the idea of Errol....on a girl. I must say I'd never thought of that option. I'm not sure I like it. What do you think of Errol for a girl?

If you spell it backwards and tinker about like mad, you get Laura!

Well I don't like Errol at all and if it wasn't honoring I wouldn't like it at all but it is not a girl's name.

I find Errol extremely unattractive on both genders. Sounds more like a skincare product or cleaning solution or maybe a bug spray than a human name... even if it is in the name list.

Not to reinvent the wheel, butI don't care for it. ;-) Errol is something I'm pretty turned off by anyway. My mother said she went to high school with one and they called him "Air hole." Hehe. A little obscure, but it reminds me of the character from Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker named Aryll. http://www.zeldawiki.org/Aryll

I say flip it backwards and have Lorre, thus doing your uncle, your mom and Peter Lorre in one fell swooop! Ftw OR WHAT.There's a modern British composer called Errollyn Wallen, who has the only female form of Errol I've ever seen. The rrolly bit in the middle is strangely appealing.

Errollyn is nice!I like it!

I can see how people would consider the sound of Errol feminine, but when I hear it, I think of Errol Flynn, so it's 100% masculine to me.

I believe Errol is on Pam and Linda's "Geezer Names for Girls" list. Will have to check though. Not really too into it, on principal, but maybe in the middle, since it honors.
(and yes it is on Pam and Linda's list http://nameberry.com/list/247/Geezer-Names-for-Girls.)

Errol Flynn must be rolling in his grave about now! To me it's another one of those boy names parents give to their daughters to "stand out". (that or they were dead set on having a son)

Well i knew an Errol HE was a hamster so that kinda rules the whole name out i might like it otherwise :)

I don't like Errol on either gender.
But I have a named friend Llyn (pronounced like Lynn) and we used to call her Errol Flynn, so I'm thinking of her whenever I hear Errol. And the Weasley's owl Errol form Harry Potter.

I don't think it works

I don't like it on principle, but trying to think of it strictly aesthetically it does sound like it could work on a girl. It rhymes with Carol, Beryl, Meryl... I think that's it.

I'm afraid I don't like it for a girl. Actually, I don't like it for a boy either.

It's horrid on a girl! It reminds me too much of Errol Flynn [and a gag from The Monkees].I like it for a boy, but I can't get past the idea of Robin Hood.

While Errol doesn't seem overly masculine, I still can't see it on a girl.
