[Opinions] Astrolabe
Rather random explanation, while doing my homework for class, I came across Peter Abelard. I had previously heard the story of Abelard and Heloise and for those who don't know he was a Medieval tutor who seduced and impregnanted Heloise.
There child Astrolabe! I really really like the name what do you guys think!
It might be guilty pleasure maybe not, I am not sure yet, but I do think its a great object name! (very hippy :)

I once wrote about Abelard and Heloise in school, but don't remember hearing the child's name before. I kinda like it. :)
I'm not sold on it at all. It sounds like "Astro Lube" which reminds me of Astro Glide, and well,... you know what that is.
Wikipedia says the meaning of Astrolabe is "star taker", which is admittedly awesome, but Astrolabe just doesn't really sound like a name to me. Like others have said, it's a tool.
hmm
I like it. But there is something kind of filthy about it. I think it is the "labe" at the end. But I still find it neato.
I didn't know Abelard and Heloise had a child. I thought they killed themselves or something.

It's the same as naming your kid compass.

Some one else said that and it doesn't turn me off of the name. While I understand its not everyone's naming style there are other object names that I think Astrolabe is better then such has Apple or Fox.
How do you pronounce it?
I would pretty much just use the american pronunciation astro - lab
I don't think it's usable, it's like naming your child "Compass" or "Telescope".
I think it sounds kinda ugly or manga wannabe... Not suitable for real life... not that Heloise is all that attractive either.
Isn't that an old-school astronomical instrument? It sounds cool, but that's all it sounds like to me.
Maybe that's why I'm getting a steampunk vibe from it. Heh.
It is thats what she named him after, I guess its a Medieval intellectual name choice :) Pretty cool I think!
