[Opinions] Tamar
What do you think of the name Tamar? How do you pronounce it? Personally, I prefer the pronunciation TAH-mar rather than TAY-mar. Does the fact that it's a Biblical name deter you from it? Do you think it's usable as a first name or should it be a middle name only?Combos? Here are some I've thought of off the top of my head. Out of these I like Tamar Celeste the best. I think it has a nice flow. Tamar Rosalind
Tamar Celeste
Tamar Rosemary
Tamar Lucasta
Tamar Winifred

I like Tamar, but wouldn't use it. I'd match it with something less frilly than the mns you suggest.

I love Tamar.I knew someone by it - she pronounced it tah-mar. Tamar is such an earthy, simple name that I can't help but think it needs something just as grounded. Tamar Judith sprang to mind.

I like Tamar Judith! That's very lovely. :)

I say TAMah, and I like it better than Tamara or Tamsin. But I think of it as a river, not a biblical reference. Some biblical names are good, some are so-so, some are dreadful and some are associated with the fanatical fringe and therefore distasteful to me. I liked the flow of Tamar Celeste, but I don't enjoy Celeste (Queen of the Elephants and my friend's cat) so keeping a good rhythm we could consider Tamar Louise, Tamar Suzanne, Tamar Eleanor, Tamar Clare, Tamar Angela. Or Tamar Susannah, Tamar Talitha or from the other end of the Bible, Tamar Christine. I didn't like an R- name following Tamar, so that cuts out Rebecca as well as Rosalind and Rosemary.

Ooh, I like Tamar Eleanor, Tamar Claire (like this spelling) and Tamar Susannah. :) Those are all really nice!

I say TA-mar or ta-MAHR.
I like Tamar Lucasta a lot!
I actually don't think it's too biblical. I like it and it seems usable.

I like Tamar well enough, but where I find it sturdy and ordinary, I love Tamara which I find luminous. Yeah, I know a lot of people view Tamara as dated and maybe it is with the nn Tammy which I don't care for at all. I'd call her Tamara.BTW, I pronounce Tamar as tah-MAR. I don't know if that's correct or not. I've never known anyone by the name. I've only heard of it in connection to the Bible.Of your combos, I also like Tamar Celeste the best.

Thanks. :) I don't like Tamara that much (probably because I do feel it is a bit dated), but I do like Tamar.

I like the name alot actually. I think I prefer it as a middle name but only because I really like frilly names. my current fave combo with the name is Augustinia Tamar*edit* I read the other posts and do agree that it is sort of masculine. It remids me of Lamar.

Oh, I didn't even think about Lamar. I don't like Lamar at all. Haha. Augustinia Tamar is very pretty.

I went to school with a boy named Tamar. He pronounced his hame teh-mair. Tamara Winifred is nice.

Oh dear, a boy Tamar. Haha. Well, it does have a masculine air to it, but I think that is part of the reason why I'm drawn to it for a girl, even though I don't normally like boy names on girls.

I think it is too masculine. It is too hard and unflattering. I pronounce it TAH-mar, just like you. I was not aware that it was a Biblical name. If you were to use it, I think it would make a better middle name. As for your combos, I like Tamar Rosalind, Tamar Rosemary, Tamar Winifred.

It does have quite a masculine sound. Oddly enough, I never really thought about that before. Paired with a frillier name, I think it's okay though. :)

I love Tamar, which I prn tuh-MAR. It's so exotic. My only concern about usability is that it sounds rather masculine. Other than that, it's very usable. You're right that Tamar Celeste is your best combo. Tamar Rosemary is also lovely.

It does sound a bit masculine, doesn't it? That doesn't really bother me though. Celeste does wonders in making Tamar seem a little more frilly. Haha.
