[Opinions] Aether
In Greek mythology, Aether was one of the Protogenoi and the personification of space, heaven, and the upper air. The concept of aether/ether as an element, and the word "ethereal" derive from this concept.These links have more information:

http://tinyurl.com/2ccoq7qThis is Orpheus' hymn to Aether:
"The Fumigation from Saffron.
O Ever untam'd Fire, who reign'st on high in Jove's dominions ruler of the sky;
The glorious sun with dazzling lustre bright, and moon and stars from thee derive their light;
All taming pow'r, ætherial shining fire, whose vivid blasts the heat of life inspire:
The world's best element, light-bearing pow'r, with starry radiance shining, splendid flow'r,
O hear my suppliant pray'r, and may thy frame be ever innocent, serene, and tame."WDYT of Aether as name? Do you prefer the spellings Æther, Aither, or Ether? Would you use it as a first or middle name?Personally, I find it enchanting and very handsome. I prefer it spelt Aether. I haven't decided yet whether I like it as a FN or MN; I'll have to concoct some combos first.

I'm partial to Æther, but that spelling isn't very practical :(

I prefer it spelled Aether. I do not think that it is so good as a name. It would work better as a middle name if it was to be used for a name.

Regardless of sp, it reminds me too much of ether for me to consider it as a name. But if I did, I'd use the sp Aether.

No Ether.I think of the drug: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EtherI'm not sure what I think of it, really. I think it's very pretty and unusual but I'm not quite sure how to pronunce it. I think I like the spelling Aither best, because it looks the most like a name to me.But I love the idea behind it so it gets a go for me. :-D

I completely forgot ether was a drug! It doesn't make me like the name any less, but it definitely rules out that particular spelling. Now I'm reminded of the passage from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas about how ether makes a person behave like "the village drunkard in some early Irish novel". LOLIf I'm not mistaken, it's just pronounced ee-thur.
