Sorry, I automatically think of the gay thing too.I do really like Thatcher though!

I think it's really silly. Why not just name him Shortstop?

I automatically think of the homosexual reference of "Which one is the pitcher and which one is the catcher". No way I would saddle a kid with that name.

Automatically I think: Cathcher in the Rye
If that's a good association for you, go for it. If not, don't.

The Catcher in the Rye is one of my favorite books and Holden has been on my favorite names list since high school. The name Catcher instantly reminds me of the book and I think that's people's first reaction to this name, so that's something to think of. I think it sounds super trendy too which is a turn off to a degree. Maybe for a middle name?

Bad. I think of two things:1) Catcher in the Rye, which I hated. Maybe you don't, and if you don't, use Holden if you want to name a son after that book, because:2) Catcher is a slang for a certain role during sexual intercourse. I don't think it's appropriate to go into further detail.

Yeah I was going to bring the whole sexual "catcher" and "pitcher" thing up.

I almost laughed out loud when I saw that! Sorry, but Catcher sounds really ridiculous as a name.

I really dislike it; it's way too trendy and dull. Then again, I'm not a fan of surnames as first names, and I'm very picky about words as names.

Ditto, also mixed with "Kate"'s reply- it sounds ridiculous to me as well.

It's not the worst name I've ever heard... but I would avoid using Rye/Riley as a middle name (: even though I would find that horribly amusing :)
