[Opinions] Catherine or Kateri?
We have a girl's first name picked out (due in June): Samantha Catherine. I like the meanings of both names, and Samantha is a name my husband has wanted ever since we got married. I get to pick the middle name. My first name is Karen, which is the Dutch form of Katherine. Also, we want a saint's name for the middle name. But lately I've been rethinking Catherine, mainly because it's the name of my ex's mother, who I had a bad relationship with. Kateri is the Mohawk or Iroquois pronunciation of Catherine, and while it's not a saint's name per se, Kateri Tekathwikia is beatified in the Catholic Church, so that would make it meaningful for us. Any thoughts? And if Kateri is too out there, any suggestions for middle names to go with Samantha (last name one syllable, begins with hard K sound)?

Normally, I prefer Catherine but in this case, I prefer Samantha Kateri over SamanTHa CaTHerine.

Thanks everyoneOf course, now that I've settled on Kateri, my husband has declared he doesn't like it OR Catherine anyway. So it's back to the drawing board.

Go with Kateri. Samantha Kateri sounds a lot more lively to me than Samantha Catherine, and I prefer the flow of Samantha Kateri to Samantha Catherine. Catherine has never really appealed to me to be honest. It strikes me as bland.

The Church I went to as a child was named after Kateri Tekakwitha! I say go with it, gives a more original spin on the classic saints.

KateriIt covers the areas of being part of your name and being a Saint's name, and avoids the similarity to the ex's-mother's name. Also it is very interesting.

I think Samantha Kateri actually sounds quite nice, even better than Samantha Catherine. I say, "Go for it!"

I prefer Catherine to Kateri, but I don't like the repetitive 'th' sound in Samantha Catherine. How about Katrin or Katrine?

If you had made a poll with those two names as choices, I would have chosen Catherine. However, given your backstory, I would say go with Kateri. On the plus side, it's unique without being too "out there"; and on the down side, people may have trouble pronouncing it. Either way, I think Kateri would be a better choice.
