[Opinions] Queens Consort
I'm in such a Matilda mood at the moment. I just started reading "Queens Consort" by Lisa Hilton about wives of medieval English monarchs beginning with the Norman conquest. As you can imagine there are many Queen Matildas running around the pages, along with Emmas, Ediths, Margarets, Adelaides, even an Adeliza. I can't wait to get through my current chapter on Eleanor of Acquitaine to get to the Berengaria of Navarre chapter! I recommend it to anyone interested in this time period. It views history from the overlooked queens' perspectives. So your thread is really catching my eye. I love Matilda because it brings up two images at once, in my mind at least. One is a stalwart, dig-her-heels-in and get the job done kind of person. The other is a waltzing (allusion intended) young woman in a white dress and her hair up. I love names that give me more than one feeling. and as you say the nn possibilities are many. I'm not familiar with the Roald Dahl story, but I'm sure it's darling. Love, love Matilda. All of your combinations are lovely with Matilda Emily being my favorite. My attempts (sorry for any repeats):Matilda Jane (the waltzer)
Matilda Joan (the medieval survivor)
Matilda Carys
Matilda Alice / Alix
Matilda Rosalie
Matilda Cecily
Matilda Edith
Matilda Winifred
Matilda Evelyn
Matilda Guinevere / Gaenor (honors Jennifer)
Matilda Vivien
Matilda Jocelin
Matilda Rosamund
Matilda Gwendolen
Matilda Clare
Matilda Eleanor
Matilda Briallen
Matilda Averil ("AV-er-il")
Matilda Lucy
Matilda Sophie
Matilda Charlotte / Caroline (I think this was George I of England's wayward sister)
Matilda Hester
Matilda Josephine
Matilda Holly
Matilda Glynis
Matilda Emmeline ("-leen")
Matilda Wren
Matilda BryonyYou like? Thanks.

Thanks for all you're suggestions! I'm glad you can see so much with this name! The combos I like are: Matilda Jane (the waltzer)
Matilda Rosalie
Matilda Winifred - Remnds me of the movie Hocus Pocus lol
Matilda Evelyn
Matilda Guinevere / Gaenor (honors Jennifer)I DO like this form a lot
Matilda Vivien
Matilda Jocelin - Always been a fan of this name
Matilda Gwendolen
Matilda Briallen - Reminds me of the Barbie Allen song lol
Matilda Holly
Matilda Emmeline ("-leen")I like it but it just sounds like I'm saying "Emily" incorrectly when i say it outloud lol but maybe that's cause I'm used to saying Emily instead
Matilda Wren - I also like Matilda Gwen
Matilda Bryony - Unusual but I like it
