Maybe because I have 4 brothers and 3 brother in law, I think of the name of the video game "Madden" whener I hear it.

Just go to youtube and type in 'john madden popcorn popper'. This clip is all I can think of when I hear that name!

Yes, I think they are reasons enough not to use it.
Football video game, women's shoes, and the meaning of the verb (it's not an adjective =). It also sounds too much like Madeline.

I think the meaning of the word is enough not use it.It's such a negative one: "to anger or infuriate; to make insane."

I don't like it for those two reasons you mentioned.

I could see it on a boy. I think primarily of football, and as an afterthought Joel & Benji Madden. Both very boy/masculine images. It does feel trendy though because it is a surname and those are very trendy right now as first names.

All I can think of is John Madden and the video games. I would probably assume that you used the name in honor of him. Not necessarily a bad thing if you like sports. I can't decide if I find it to surnamey at not, my first thought was "PLEASE NO"...but the more I think about it the more I am enjoying it. (or maybe that is just because I am watching the Pats kick some butt and am in that mindset)

Nope I don't think so. I love it, I'd use it myself, but the last name would begin with M and I don't like the alliteration. Some similar names you could use:Maddox
Maddoc
Max
Maxen
