I just came across Stewart in a book and since this is not a name we discuss on here very often I thought we might now ;)

I kinda like it and I slightly prefer this spelling because Stuart always reminds my of the city of Stuttgart minus 'ttg' which looks a little odd to my eyes. Other than that I think Stuart isn't a bad spelling either.

So do you like the name? Which spelling do you prefer? Do you pronounce them STOO-ərt or STYOO-ərt? Any middle name ideas?

I like Stuart better, everytime I see the W I keep saying it as a V
Stuart doesn't make me think of Stuttgart at all.

I don't mind the name over all, though I would never think of using it

My nephew, Stuart Cameron, pronounced with a STYOO, has influenced me! His brothers are Alexander Duncan and Benjamin James, and his parents are Gary Bruce and Louanne Shirley. Oh, and the Pug is Edwina.

I prefer Stuart. I really dislike the 'stew' in Stewart.

I pronounce them "SYOO-ert" because I'm British.

I'm not crazy about the name. It's one of those names that make me think of a food, and the food it makes me think of is beef stew. But if I had to, I prefer the spelling Stuart. Stewart seems dumbed-downed, and also, Stewart is somewhat more beef-stewy to me, because the word "stew" is actually contained in it.

I quite like Stuart, but don't like Stewart much because of the stew and the ew. I'd pronounce them both as STYOO-ərt. Stuart Innes is all I can come up with right now.

I like the name and prefer Stuart. The Stuttgart thing doesn't both me (never been to Germany and Stuttgart just makes me think of Sami Khedira, so I'm all for that, lol). The reason whu I prefer Stuart is because I don't like the 'wart' wart... or the 'stew' part of Stewart. Stewart looks a little more balanced to me, but I like the more 'open' feel of Stuart.
I say STOO-ərt for Stuart and STEW-wərt for Stewart... somehow the 'w' sound ends up on both syllables.

Stuart and Stewart are growing on me, just like Stephan is. I prefer Art or Artie as a nickname to Stu, even if they aren't totally true to the sound.

I too prefer Stuart. The "stew-" part in Stewart seems odd to me in a first name. I much prefer the cool nn of Stu to the silly nn of Stew.

I have the same reaction to Lewis / Louis.

Well, I prefer Lewis over Louis so I guess there is a pattern ;)
I agree on Stu being a better nickname than Stew though.

Stewart is too close to steward for me, and to stew.

Both are okay names, and I wouldn't mind seeing either of them. I just don't like the nickname Stu. :-D

I really like Stuart William & Stuart Edmund.

I am probably one of the few who would think of steward

but it's a word that I see often as a Catholic.
