[Opinions] Persis
Can anyone shed some light onto how this name is pronounced. I think it has aesthetic appeal but I'm not sure about the pronounciation. If it is said like "purses" I may have to drop it off my list all together. What do you think of it?

I actually love Persis. I think it's quite pretty, but it might be hard for some people to pronounce.

No clue on pronunciation (could be 'purses' w/ stressed final 's' or 'pearses') but be warned that if the name is read too quickly, well... it doesn't look good AT ALL :-P

You need to pronounce the -i- higher than the -e- in purses; more like the -i- sound in the unstressed syllable of lettuce.I like seeing it, but not enough to use it. I dread the prospect of Percy! There's someone called Persis, a minor character, in one of the later Anne (of Green Gables) books, which is where I and thousands like me saw it first. Good associations!

I love Persis, and I pronounce it phonetically ("PUR-siss").

I say PER-sis with a very sharp beginning, I think it's beautiful. It's slightly harsh, but in a good way.

I say it like "PER-sis"; crisper than "purses". I love this name, it's one of my faves that I always forget about, right up there with Thais.

I agree with the pn. I have a gggreat ever so great grandmother with this name. but it reminds me of sour lemons (pursed lips). don't like.
