[Opinions] Stepford
Stepford as a (male) name - could it work? Or is it too evocative of "Stepfather"?

Wife, sorry.
I can't see it.

Besides the Stepford Wives it also reminds me of Oprah's Stedman.
I think it would work as a male name but he'd have to turn out a lawyer (at least in my head, lol) and it should be his middle name which he goes by. Something like G. Stepford lawyer-y-surname :)
Wives is a bigger problem!
...Wife.
Definitely not usable, IMO.

It reminds me of the Stepford Wives. It's not usable in my mind due to that association I have with it.
I'll echo the chorus of "Stepford Wives." Weird, weird movie.
Who would ever want to be his wife? Creeeeeeeepy.
My first thought!

Nah. Stepford makes me think of "The Stepford Wives". Not a good association.
It actually makes me think of The Stepford Wives.
The first thing I thought of was the "Wives". I don't really get "Stepfather" from it, even after reading your question.
If it was a family surname I wanted to honor, I'd have no problem using it as a given name for a boy, but I'd probably relegate it to middle namehood.
Sherlock feels more like a usable first name to me than this does. :)

I suppose it could work. It reminds me of "stepfather", though. And Stephen and Ford and Stafford. If I met one I'd probably think it was a family surname or something.
