Help[Opinions] Chaucer...
is the name of a boy I met today. He was 3 or 4. I'm not usually a fan of surnames as first names, but I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Opinions?

I like it. It's different, but because of Geoffrey Chaucer it sounds familiar to people and doesn't seem out there. It could be kind of an obvious reference to the author though.

Heh. I like it, GPishly. I named a sim Chaucer once. I thought it was totally original.

Very literary. Personally, I'd never use it myself, but it's nice to see on a child. But that may just be because I'm an English major.

I think I'd prefer Geoffrey. Chaucer's too obvious.

Meh. Too overtly pretentious for me. The sound of it just isn't pleasant to my ears at all. It's all that CHAW. But I'd be interested if I met a little Chaucer, not gonna lie.

It's really, really pretentious to me. I like the sound and the idea of it, but it's too "look how educated we are!" to actually use in real life.

*nerdiness drool* Hehe! I think it's great. Ans it's not like it's just any surname... it doesn't follow the 'surname-as-fn' trends really either; it doesn't follow the patterns of Jackson or Carter.
