[Opinions] Marietta
I heard this name in my local newspaper today. I like it, even though I also kinda think of marionettes. What do you think of Marietta?

I have a co-worker named this and she pronounces it more like mah-RETT-uh so I don't think of marionettes. However, I do see your point.
It's a bit frilly, but there's something cheerful and pleasantly old-fashioned about it. I quite like it.
My first thought was marionettes, too. I would think it's pretty - my second thought was "arietta" - but I think marionettes are some of the CREEPIEST things in existence.
It's the surname of a teacher at my school, but besides that I think it's pretty. I don't like -etta names usually, but this one is okay.
I think of marionettes, too. It's all right, but a little too frilly for my personal taste.
Makes me think of a town in the state of Georgia, which is odd since that's a good 1,000+ miles away.

Naughty Marietta
I think of the 1935, Jeanette McDonald / Nelson Eddy movie. It's set in 1800's New Orleans and has plenty of blood curdling operettas like, "Ah Sweet Mystery of Life." (Anyone who's ever seen Madeline Kahn in "Young Frankenstein" will recall this little ditty.) Anyway, I've always thought Marietta was a cute, peppy, underutilized classic. It's got Old Hollywood stamped all over it for me.
The only downside is the Marriott chain of hotels. Marionettes are a cute association to me. But the corporate thing with Marriott puts me off a bit. Still, I'd give Marietta the thumbs up. :-)

It's not really my style. I also think of marionettes when I hear it.
