[Opinions] Sparrow
I've always kept Sparrow in the MN slot, but what do you think of it as a first name for a girl? I feel like if Wren, Robin, Lark, and Jay can work, why not Sparrow? Thoughts? Thank you!

I love Sparrow! But I've always thought of it for a boy. It could work on a girl though. It's a definite gp of mine.
Nicole Richie and Joel Madden named their son Sparrow, so I'm sure a few more will be popping up out there soon enough lol.

I generally don't like the idea of having pesky flittering songbirds as namesakes, regardless of gender. I have no idea why, but to me this comes of as a "yuppies who think they're hippies because they shop at Trader Joe's" type of name. Possibly because it's a nature name without being too far out there. That being said, I'm not a fan.

Though I would not use it, I think it is pretty.

I just can't help thinking - after I think involuntarily of Captain Jack Sparrow and the trendy affectations of Johnny Depp - that sparrows are brown, pesky, overabundant, and just ever so trivial. They don't have much going for them. That's even why, IMO, they were used as they were in the Bible symbolism I've heard about. Like, doesn't it use the idea that the sparrow is so darned insignificant, to point out the extent of God's love? The robin portends Spring and is resourceful and busy; the lark sings a beautiful song; the wren is a sacred bird to the Celts; I think Jay is just the letter J written out (I think the bird is not a very uplifted namesake at all, but at least they're a pretty blue color). So ... sorry, I can't talk it up to you. I wouldn't want to be called Sparrow. I vote for Sparrow in the middle name slot only.

I'm not a fan of it, on either gender. However, I would much prefer to see it on a girl than a boy. On a boy it just feels overly ridiculous, it might sound cute on a baby, but imagine a 40 year old man . . .

I like it! I think it can work as a first name. I think it would need a middle name that was pretty, sort of long, and non-naturey. Something like Sparrow Elinor, or Sparrow Abigail, or maybe Sparrow Hermione. Or maybe something short like Sparrow Jane...

I personally don't like it, but I honestly wouldn't blink twice if I came across someone with the name. I actually went to school with a boy whose last name was Sparrow and everyone always called him that, so I tend to think of it as a boy's name. The other thing I don't like much about Sparrow as a fn, especially for a girl, is what kind of nicknames would she have, if she didn't go by her full name? I can't think of any good ones.
