[Opinions] Damian/Damien
This is one of my favorite names, mostly because of it's use in horror movies.Yet I find that too many people hate it just because of the character in "The Omen." They think it literally means 'devil' or 'child of the devil,' when the real meaning has nothing to do with that (it comes from the Greek word, damao, which means 'to tame')Despite this, or maybe even because of it, I love this name and plan on giving it to my son one day. What do you guys think of it?

I love the name Damian (prefer this spelling). It's in my top 10 names for boys. I'd definitely consider using it, although I think I'd be more likely to make it the middle name. The association with The Omen doesn't bother me at all.

It's a good name: I've never bothered with the movie so I can't comment, but an old friend of mine has a Damien partner so that's the spelling I'm most used to. Go for it! By the time he's growing up, the movie will probably be forgotten.

I really like it. I don't think Damian seems devilish at all.I prefer Damian over Damien, because 1. Damien was the spelling in Omen, I think, and 2. Damien looks sort of femmey to me (like Vivien, Julien, Adrien, etc) and those two things combine to give Damien a sort of vampy character. I've know a guy named Damian whose style was a little bit suited to the devilish connotation people find in the name (he was sort of a punk rocker I guess), but he was a manly person, not all fey and Damien-y.(Apologies to Damiens everywhere - I've never met you, so this is just my impression of the name on paper. I think Damien is a decent name)I like Damon even more than Damian (it has the same origin). I know it's dated and associated with some dorky dudes, but that is kind of why I like it. It's more of a statement than Damian is. Someone (New Chloe?) said that it was "thuggish and slow, earthy and dense" compared to Damian's "clarity, sparkle, energy, intelligence" and I agree with that impression (and I still like Damon more!). I think Damian sounds more modest and subtle, too. It's a great name =)

My oldest brothers first name is John-Damien, (for biblical reasons) and he has never got the omen commentary.

I like it a lot but prefer Damon in general

I love it and I too have considered it for a son. I don't automatically think Damian= devil child, I just think it's a great name. I like both spellings but like Damien a little more.

I like it:-)
My fave form is Damjan, but in English I like Damien. I've never seen The Omen so that association doesn't matter to me. Unfortunately, when more unusual names get used for negative characters people seem to forget that it's just a name a writer chose for that character.
