I don't like Gregory (or Van for that matter), but this is pretty cool as a combined name.

Is there something about this man's age that makes Vangregory special? Is there a pop culture reference that I don't know about? For example, if I met someone in there 50's named Renesmee or Sirius or Voldemort then it would make my eyes pop. I still wouldn't like their name. But knowing that there were parents who were 50 years ahead of the trend would be something indeed. And that's how I feel about Vangregory. I don't see the appeal of it at all. It's just two names smooshed together. Sometimes that works, like Liselotte or Michaelangelo. But Van reminds me of German "van" as an aristocratic flair, as in Ludwig van Beethoven. And he made the van part up which just adds to the absurdity in my mind of Vangregory. However, I will keep my mind open if someone can explain a pop culture reference that parents 50 years ago were onto. Perhaps it's a surname? Gregory is so handsome as is, I don't see the need to improve it.

Oh, I'm sorry! I just thought it was a cool name sighting and was including his age. No special association as my poor punctuation would have you believe. :-)Personally, I greatly dislike Gregory. It always came off prissy and weak. When I saw Vangregory I thought "Now that's the strength that Gregory was missing!" So that's the appeal for me.

Really? I find it very interesting that you feel that way about Gregory because I feel the complete opposite about it. I think it's a very strong, masculine name.I think Van makes it seem weaker, or at least silly. It sounds like a surname... van Gregory. So hopefully that's actually what it is because otherwise adding Van in front of it for no apparent reason is quite odd.

I think it may stem from personal associations because I really can't put my finge on why it seems that way to me.
