It makes me think of oranges, since it is the name of a variety of orange.

I don't think being associated with oranges is a bad thing. I like oranges. It also makes me think of the song "O, Valencia" by The Decemberists.

It's a place name and I'm not a fan of those. Not to mention that I dislike the English pronunciation of Valencia.

I don't like it. I heard of someone named Valencia in English and they pronounce it "va-len-SEE-a" which... ugh.
I lived in the Valencian Community last year and am moving back in the fall. I don't like it at all as a name, despite loving the area. It's not used at all in Spain, so that puts me off it, too. I'd just feel weird using it and I'd rather use Amparo, which is tightly tied with the Community.

She's a kind of mean character on Dragon Fable so I associate the name with her./end nerdiness

Isn't Valencia a region of Spain or something? Anyway, I still think it's very pretty.

I like it, it is pretty and rare, but more like a GP. As a chemistry nerd it kind of reminds me of valence electrons. :P
