Unrealistic names for the time period. Is this book supposed to be realistic, or is it some sci-fi novel because I seriously doubt people named their kid Rorex in the 1900s. Is this book aimed for YA/tweens?As for the actual names, I like
Fairlight
Zady
Lulu
Ruby Mae, but spelt May so it isn't as hick
Opal
Vella
ClarabelleCreed*
Lundy*
Ault
Wraight*
Hazen*
Smith*Names I'd never name an actual human being, but a character or maybe a middle name.

It isn't science fiction or young adult. It is about a missionary/teacher in rural appalachia in the early 1900s. The people she worked with were incredibly isolated and not really caught up with mainstream society.

And isn't it actually based on a true story, even? Not that the names couldn't have been changed...

Y'all have to know that rural Appalachian folks often use weird names. It doesn't mean they are Sci Fi. In some instances, the names are bastardizations of actual names. Girls
Fairlight
Zady (Sadie)
Lulu
Ruby Mae
Nuda (no telling...something made up or a combination of two names)
Lizette (Lisette)
Opal
Vella
Clarabelle
Swannie (Suwanee as in the river)
Mountie (Probably some religious connotation...ie sermon on the mount)Boys
Creed (virtue type name)
Dicle (maybe from surname Deekle)
Larmie (Laramie like the river)
Lundy (French for Monday is Lundi)
Ault (Scottish surname and would have been common in Appalachia during this time period due to the ethnicity of the immigrants)
Arrowood (herb/plant that is medicinal)
Wraight (surname)
Rorex (surname)
Hazen (surname)
Smith (guess :))

I like Zady, Ruby Mae, and Opal. Arrowood is a cool name. I don't think I'd use it myself, but it caught my attention.
