Help[Opinions] Anhika
My brother and his wife found out today that they are having a girl. Combined, this will be their 6th child (and unfortunately probably not the last). The name they've chosen is Anhika Katherine. I think it's a lovely name except for the spelling of Anika. I really can't get over the unnecessary h that they want to throw in there.
Apparently their reason for the h was that it would help people to pronounce the name correctly. I just don't really 'get' this reasoning because the name isn't that uncommon and if they wanted the h to help people correctly say the name then it should be Ahnika. They also believe this spelling is "unique" because according to the social security list of names (not sure what it's called exactly) only 9 people have this spelling of this name.
I don't like this spelling at all and looking at the name written out is difficult to do. I'm not really sure how set in stone they are with the spelling but I hope they change their minds. Thoughts on this??

Anhika looks "illiterate" to me. She'll probably have to spell her name out a lot. I don't get what's the prounouciation issue and Anhika isn't "unique" it's just a mangling of an ordinary name.

I completely agree with this. The spelling is not unique and makes them look illiterate. The name and terrible spelling also does not 'fit' with the names of their other children (their names are all spelled correctly).

If I saw Anhika, I would have no hesitation in pronouncing it ann HIK a; and I would dislike it intensely.
However, where I live the usual spelling is Anneke, not Anika, so perhaps I'm more confused than an American person would be.

Onnika would work too. That would be a phoenetic way to spell the name and probably isn't very popular either.

Anhika looks harder to pronounce; I'd say an-HEE-kuh instead of AHN-i-kuh / AH-nik-uh. I think Anika-not-Annika is explicit enough.
