I know a new baby Nylah...both parents are white. Not sure where the name came from. Believe the middle name is Grace. I did hear ignorant ppl prn Nala like this before. Maybe this is a derivative.

I kind of like it. But how is it pronounced?

There are only two vowels: the two a sounds. The ny is like the gn one gets in Italian or French. The first syllable is stressed, and the a is like the a in far, but without the r of course. Try humming, using an n sound instead of the usual m. Then say YA-la. The unstressed a is a bit shorter of course.
It's a very pretty antelope, but I'm sceptical about it as a name because it is also a mine-proofed armoured personnel carrier, and I can't imagine calling a baby girl after a military vehicle.

Honestly, I don't know yet. I've only seen it written down.

I like it. The only bad thing I can see is if it's used in a pseudo-African way, the way some white kids get named tribal names when their parents have no connection to the tribe. Honestly though, I don't think that matters as much as people say it does, so I like it either way. It's just better if there's a connection or honoring thing going on with it. It seems like a name that has the potential to be popular, but isn't.
