What do you think of this name? I think it's a mutant Katelyn.

I actually don't mind it. It may be a mutant Kaitlyn, but atleast it's interesting. I do prefer Kateland to Katelynd, I must say.

I know a Kateland! She pronounces it like Caitlin.
There must be several girls named this because when you go to www.namenerds.com they have a list of all the spellings that were used and I think in 1998 or so when Caitlin was at its height of popularity there were a couple of girls named Kateland. It was listed as an alternate spelling of Caitlin. They have really interesting lists because they let you see almost all names that have been used, even those that have just been used by 6 people or so.
Personally my first idea of a pronunciation would be KATE-land, not KATE-lyn but I guess it can be pronounced like Caitlin as well.
Oh and I don't like it.

Thankfully, I've never really met her so I can just call her Kate/Katie in my head and forget the rest of her name.

I was scrolling on a list of bad names from the UK.
I came across the awful name. That was enough to bring up the monstrocity.

Wow, if those are accurate numbers, that site scares me. I plugged in some atrocious names and saw how many times they were used 0_o

As a nickname? Okay that's fine. I used to be called that when I was a kid, it was a running joke and I was the queen of the land and blah blah blah.

I think it looks dumb. Kind of like Matalynn, Emaly, Keyairra, Inzielee (Ainsley?), Eyan, or Katon. Which are some recent encounters from little league rosters (wish I could post them all, but there's hundreds of names, many are atrocious :( )
At this point with all the crazy spellings out there, I think it's more "unique" to spell your kid's name the traditional way.

If Maitland is a name, and its d isn't said, logically, you could. But, I don't think you should.

I think Katelyn is a mutant Caitlin, and Kateland is simply awful. I see a lot of teasing, and a lot of difficulties with spelling it out. Also, when I see names like this, while I assume it's a variant of Caitlin, I pronounce it as it see it. Surely that can't be what the parents are going for? (I met a little boy named Ryland, last year, and his mother pronounced it the same as Rylan. If I were to look at his name, and say it, I would have pronounced the d, is the point I think I've now over-made ...)
