[Opinions] Vienne for a boy?
I remember when I saw Ailill Vienne on a boy. I was floored. What do you guys think of using Vienne on a boy? What would you pair it with?

Vienne is all girl to me, but its nice to see a name make the jump that way. Usually its boy to girl. Normally I'd say word names are fair game for either, but as this is a French word name, thats different- in French there are masculine and feminine place names, and Vienne is feminine. Vienne Nicholas
Vienne Henry
Vienne Tobias
Vienne MicahTheodore Vienne
Arthur Vienne
Jasper Vienne
Luca VienneBest I could do *shurgs*

I wouldn't use it myself because it doesn't sound like a name to me, but since it's a place name, and not a very common name, I don't really see how it's classed as either masculine or feminine. If the name or place had some significance then I guess I would consider it usable for either gender, but I don't see the appeal myself if that makes sense.

I believe it's seen as female in France sine it's a female noun in French. Most other languages don't see place names as having neutral gender as English does.

I agree with that, I guess I made the assumption the OP was in the US which maybe is my bad. In a culture that doesn't associate gender to names then I don't see anything wrong. I agree that in France it could be more problematic.

I think it's problematic in the US too, because we are familiar with French feminine forms that look similar and have masculine counterparts - Adrienne / Adrien, Vivienne / Vivien, Julienne / Julien, Donatienne / Donatien, Lucienne / Lucien ... the only exception I know of is Etienne.

I guess I assumed the family at least spoke French, since wouldn't they use the English name for the city otherwise?

?? Not sure really :) Vienna isn't in the btn database and Vienne is. Maybe they would use the French name because it sounds more "exotic".

Why disturbing?

Kids will make fun of him for having a girly-sounding name.

It's a middle name, and a hardly ever used name at that. I bet a boy named Avery or Riley right now would be teased more than a boy named Vienne because he's more likely to meet a girl of that name than a girl named Vienne.

A feminine name on a boy for a middle name? Oh my! That's a bit disturbing to me.

Disturbing in what sense?

It reminds me of an alias middle name of a tranny. I immediately think of RuPaul's Drag Race.

Do you feel the same way about boy's names on girls?
