[Opinions] Lantana
I was at a flower nursery the other day, and looked at all the new flowers for spring. I took special note of their names, especially one called Lantana. It struck me as spunky and could be softened up with the nn "Lana" (rhymes with Hannah). WDYT? Too trendy? Does it seem like a name to you? I mean, we have plenty of flower names on the database such as Amaryllis, Clover, Pansy, Primrose, and Daffodil. I think Lantana actually could work for a name, and a much better one than, say, Pansy

Lantana, in its natural habitat, might be acceptable. In my country, it's actually illegal to grow it, so noxious is it! Birds love the berries and spread the seeds far and wide, where the bushes grow into dense, thorny thickets which often centre around existing trees (where the birds perch ...) so that animals and people can't benefit from the shade. Cattle which eat it come to taste of the pungent leaves so their milk can't be sold. The flowers are pretty, but the associations ... ! I know a botanist who was researching ways of eradicating it in the wild, and to take out a mature plant (and they grow fast) he needed welder's gloves. So, use it with pleasure but I won't be joining you.

Yeah, it's a pretty hated weed here. I even prefer Santana tbh. Lana is a nice nickname, but with the Lah-nuh pronunciation.

This one makes me giggle because I once lived in a dorm called Lantana.I think it has potential and Lana makes a nice nickname.

Ooh, I love Lantana! I hadn't thought about this one in a few years...I believe the lantana is a poisonous plant, though, which certainly takes away from its appeal.

Hehe, I think that makes it cooler! I'd think being named after a poisonous plant would be SO much better than being Rose or Daisy or Petunia.

Ha ha good point. But hey, I'd say being named anything beats being called Petunia.

Cool! I like this. It reminds me of Santana and lantern; it also reminds me of Candelaria and Calandra (their similarities to candle and calendar remind me of Lantana's similarity to lantern... anyway...). I think it is "namey". I like it because it's elegant but not prissy at all, which is usually what I want out of a flower name. I would prefer Lana as LAH-na, but I suppose it's good rhyming with Hannah too.
