Ald met Ned at church one day, and Ned was instantly enthralled with her youthful face and figure. For her part, Ald was flattered that such a distinguished man found her attractive. By the next Sunday, Ned asked Ald's father, Hal, if he could escort Ald to church and then take her for a walk. The following month, the two were married (Hal had 8 other daughter's at home, and was grateful to have Ald out of the house) - Ald wasn't yet 15.
Eleven months after the marriage, Ald gave birth to their first child, a daughter. Ned doted on the little girl, but wanted a son or 6 to help out on the farm. Ned allowed Ald to name her Dreda, but insisted on using Christobel as the MN to honor his deceased sister.
Just a little over a year later, Ald and Ned were welcoming a son into the family. Ned was thrilled. He'd barely had his wife 2 years and already had 2 healthy children. Jep was named for Ned's favorite uncle (also deceased). Ald was starting to feel very tired, trying to take care of two infants, her ever-changing body, and a house.
On Ned's and Ald's third anniversary (not that they celebrated such things, but they did note the passage of them every year in church with an extra prayer), they welcomed their third child, another son. Ned was thrilled with Wilmot, but Ald took sick and her younger sister had to come help out for a few months.
Ald got back on her feet again by summer, but wasn't able to conceive for two whole years. At first, Ned was scared, and then furious. He was sure that Ald had somehow done something evil that stopped her from being able to carry a child. However, his mother, Rohesia, told him differently. Ald was barely 18, and had already had three children. Her body was taking some time to recover. Rohesia assured Ned that Ald would have another child for him before Wilmot was 2.
Sure enough, Wilmot turned two while his mom was heavily pregnant with their little brother or sister. When Ald had a little girl, Ned was slightly upset that it wasn't a son, but extremely grateful that Ald and the girl were healthy. Emmeline was named for Ald's best friend, who had just died of the lung disease.
Ald had 2 miscarriages during the next three years, and had to nurse everybody in the family through a deep coughing sickness. It was three years before Ald and Ned were able to produce more children. However, they more then made up for the wait by having twins! Ned was so thrilled that he left the names up to Ald (besides, he was running low on ideas!). Ald named Tetty after her mother and Aunt, and Hubbard after her maiden name, with Barnaby being after her youngest brother.
The next five years gave Ned and Ald three son's (two being twins). Noll was after Ned's younger brother who just joined the Queen's Navy, and Hamo after a story that Dreda had read. Hob and Col were named after the doctor, Nicholas Roberts, that delivered them and saved all three lives (Hob, Col and Ald). Crispian was another name that Dreda found in a story, and Audley was in honor of Ald.
Ned was thrilled. He'd been married for 14 years and had 9 children (6 of which were sons!). Ned ended up having to work the farm hard for the next two years. Their was a drought, and it needed constant attention. With all of the work, Ned and Ald almost didn't even sleep in the same bed (and almost never came together as man and wife).
It was four years before they had another child. When she was born, Ned and Ald realized that they were out of names! Dreda came to the rescue, and helped come up with names for most of the other children. Over the next 11 years, they had four more daughters and another set of twin boys!
Ald was carrying their 15th child when Ned was in a farming accident. Unfortunately, Ned did not survive. Ald, who was alternately called Ald Mother or Mother Goose, ended up giving birth to a healthy daughter. Ald named her Melicent, but everybody called her Little Cissy.
Jep and Wilmot took over the farm, and Jep is considering courting a young girl from church. Dreda has decided to join a convent. Emmeline married late, at 18, and is living in town above her husband's shoppe. They have just welcomed a daughter, whom they both dote upon greatly! Tetty married three years ago to Hubbard's best friend. She lives on a farm not too far away and already has welcomed twin sons into the household. Hubbard was apprenticed to the local blacksmith, and is doing well. Noll apprenticed to Dr. Nicholas Roberts, and might even attend school! Hob, Col, Wat and Hudde help Jep and Wilmot on the farm. Gytha goes over to a neighbors farm to help watch the little ones in exchange for fresh meat from the cattle. Idonea helps out around the house, and Molle and Little Cissy are busy just being kids.
Ald is, of course, living at the farm still. She'll probablly stay with Jep and Wilmot there for at least the next 15-ish years. When Little Cissy is finally married, Ald is considering retirement to a nunnery.
