I love Rowena! It's one of my favorites. My stock combo is Alice Rowena. Someone suggested it to me here on the boards, and I think it's lovely. I pronounce it row-EE-nah.
I don't think it has any more teasing potential than any other name. Nothing pops out at me right away.
I don't think the HP association is too strong at all. And if it was, it wouldn't bother me anyway.

I say "roh-EE-nuh" and I think it's great. I've never read any of the HP books so I can't say for sure. But it seems that I should thank the author for making such personal favorites as Hermione, Fleur, Cedric and Minerva known to a whole new generation. The only down-side is that now it's the only reference they have for the names and are thus hesitant to use them.
I say rely on the history of the name Rowena. Dont' worry about HP. Rowena is one of the heroines in "Ivanhoe," afterall. I think the name would age beautifully.

I really like it; I pronounce it ro-wee-nuh. I think it is a nicer, more feminine alternative to Rowan (which is too masculine for girls in my opinion)
I don't see why it would recieve teasing, I can't think of any bad associations. I know Harry Potter very well and didn't even think of the association, so I really don't think it's a big deal. It's not like Rowena Ravenclaw is a major character in the books.

Ro-WEE-nuh. A friend of mine once met an Owena who pronounced her name o-WEE-nuh, but I'd expect O-en-a for that, instead of Rowena-without-the-R.
I like it very much, especially because it's pretty well nickname-proof. And, unlike many Harry Potter names, it's been steadily in use before, during and after the books, so I can't see why it might be a problem. The Walter Scott association is actually stronger for me, though I'm an HP fan of note, and I'd like to see Rowena and Rebecca as a sibset.

I like Rowena, and have met a few real-life Rowena's. I've only heard it pronounced row-EE-nah. Harry Potter is what springs to mind, but I don't think the association is too strong. Certainly not as strong as Hermione or Ginny!

I tend to say ro WEE na, but I learned how to say it from the movies. I don't think Rowena has a strong connection, but she's on the good side. I think it would be fine.

They don't talk about her much, since the main characters are from (Godric) Griffindor, and some of the secondary characters are from (Salazar) Slytherin. It sounded like ro WEE na to me when McGonnagal talked about the Chamber of Secrets/ history of the founding of the school.

I love Rowena when it's pronounced ro-WEN-ə. I'm not too keen on the more typical pronunciation, ro-EE-nə, however. I don't think that someone named Rowena (ro-WEN-ə) would be teased because of her name, but the "wee" part of Rowena (ro-EE-nə) might result in a bit of teasing. Kids might call her "wee wee" or "wiener", but once people grew up, it would be less of an issue.
I didn't know that there was a Harry Potter character named Rowena. I'm not a Harry Potter fan, so I'm out of the loop in that regard, but I'd say it's safe to use, especially if it's a minor character. The name was around long before the books and movies, so it's not like that's the only place Rowena can be found.

Both, I know ro-wee-nuh is more 'correct' but I still like row-enn-uh better.

I love Rowena pronounced "ro-WEN-uh" but dislike it pronounced "ro-WEEN-uh." Rowen and Wennie (Winnie) are sweet nns too. I think it's only subject to teasing when pronounced with the "WEEN" part.
I didn't even think about Harry Potter but then again I'm really not all that familiar with HP characters - never read the books and have only seen the first 3 movies

The ro-WEEN-uh pronunciation isn't too appealing, is it? I prefer pronouncing the name as ro-WHEY-nuh.
Regardless of how you pronounce it, I don't think one would be subject to teasing because of the name, or that the Harry Potter association is too strong.
