[Opinions] Patrick
My husband and I were talking about Saints that we wouldn't mind honoring. Among the normal names that came up my husband brought up Patrick. I like the name and I especially like that it's my husband's confirmation name. The problem is that I'd prefer to not use it as a first name - mostly because I suspect that my sister-in-law will use it. (It's the name of her father-in-law.) The other reason I don't like is that we have an Irish surname and the name would sound very Irish. While both my husband and I have Irish in us it's not much - he considers himself mostly German and I consider myself mostly Swedish. It would be weird to have a child with such an Irish name when it's not a big part of our ancestry.
So: Ideas? We thought about Augustus Patrick and I like it. My husband is iffy on it but I think it's neat and just quirky enough. Otherwise we have no ideas.

Aw, I like Patrick. It's a sweet name, and it is an old Catholic standby. But I agree, it would not work at all with your surname.
Augustus Patrick is not my style, but it flows well and I would think that it's really neat. I'm not sure if you wanted saint's name + Patrick, or name + Patrick. If you are looking for the former, the BtN list is pretty comprehensive.

We're good on Saint's name
We chose saints that did something - wrote, helped reform the church, etc. The idea of someone living in abject misery and then dying and becoming a Saint isn't that great to me. Give me Thomas of Aquinas, Julian of Norwich, Hildegarde of Bengin, Thomas Merton, Theresa of Avila, St. Francis & Clare of Assisi before Perpetua & St. Rose of Lima.

I really don't like Patrick. It makes me think of a drunk university student. How about Kyle Patrick? Do you like Francis? That's probably my favourite saint.
I love Patrick, it's my youngest son's name. He's Patrick Vincent. Augustus Patrick is great! I would also love August Patrick!

Since when is Patrick only for people of Irish descent? There are guys named Patrick who are not of Irish descent. The name exists in many languages as well, German included.

It isn't.
I said that it would sound Irish with our Irish surname - Irish enough for people to assume that he was. If we had a different surname I would have no problem at all using Patrick - and most likely would.

I sort of like it. If I were you I'd keep it as a middle name option, because of the reasons you mentioned. Augustus Patrick is cool! I'd probably opt for August Padraig / August Padraic if it were me, because I prefer simpler first names and because I prefer those versions of Patrick. It's still good though.
I'd totally go for August Padraig, too.
For some reason my husband does not like August, though. I find it incredibly frustrating - he tends to go a bit overboard when it comes to boys names. (Constantine, Raphael, Augustine/Augustus, Ambrose & Edgar are some of his favorites)
Augustus Padraic is pretty cool, though - I think I like it better than Augustus Patrick.

I won't gush over Patrick since you don't need me to, so I'll try some combos I hope you'll like. :) Trying to remember names you like, too...
Allan Patrick - I like this, it's very straightforward.
Raphael Patrick
Constantine Patrick - this somehow manages to work well, I think
Damian Patrick
Noam Patrick
Walter Patrick
Phineas Patrick
Norman Patrick
Abraham Patrick
I thought to add Ira Patrick, but then wasn't sure if it was kind of funny with Patrick feeling Irish and then Ira is spelled IRA. Ha.)
I really like Augustus Patrick, though. That is one awesome name. I don't think you should use Patrick with your last name not because it sounds more Irish than you consider yourself, but because it's the name of a pretty well-known person.
Oh I love Patrick so much and saying it my head so many times reminded me.

Oh, Allan Patrick is very handsome!
I didn't think of the namesake!
It's actually the reason I decided to not use Joseph.
Ira Patrick has an odd flow to me, we actually thought of it and dismissed it. I laughed when I saw Damian, btw - it's the name of one of my brothers-in-law. :-D
I really, really like Allan Patrick - a LOT. I'm going to suggest that to X. The rest aren't my style, save for Raphael Patrick. However I still prefer Raphael Christian - I think Raphael & Allan would be neat as brothers.

Oh yeah, I think I knew you had a brother in law named Damian. Forgot. I'm glad you like Allan Patrick so much! I think it was my favorite, too.
But yeah, as you might recall me having said before, I wanted Ben to be Patrick for the longest time, and even finally talked Nick into using it. Then about a week after it was confirmed he was a boy, I realized that he didn't feel like a Patrick. Alas, but I still would like it to be on the table if we ever were to have another boy.

I really do like Patrick.
It's odd, it's not a name I ever thought I'd like. It seems the older I get the more I turn to what I call 'comfortable, rocking chair' names. I also think it would be cool to use our confirmation names as middle names - Patrick for husband, Juliana for me.
