I've had Bede on my mind today. I think it's a very smart, snappy name, and it feels very warm and caring. Plus I love the namesake.

Love, love, love Bede. It's been a GP mn for me for some time. I've never had the nerve to use it as a fn before. But seeing your combos makes me wonder why. My favorites from your list:

It's much more comfortable as a mn, and difficult as a fn, but it's just too interesting to not try!

I like a lot of your combos:

Stuff like Bede Franciscus and Bede Clement, etc. is great and totally fun to play around with, but I kind of wanted to avoid names that would make the entire name sound overly pious. Although I often like those sort of combos, too.

I want to like it. It's unusual, it's ancient, it's short - all things I like. Plus, when he got old it would be fun to be a venerable Bede. :D
But somehow I can't get over the fact that it sounds exactly like Bead, and just keep thinking of beady eyes. I do think it makes a handsome and interesting middle name, though, and like all your examples.

I really like Bede! It's so strange and sharp.

OK, I love Bede. I agree, smart and snappy to the extreme. I'm sure I'm saying it worng - like "beady"? Oops, yep, it's "bead". Even better, that!

I really like the energy of Bede Rory (what a rascal he is), the dapper dourness of Bede Francis, amd the witty, fox-red Bede Warren. Really unexpected, that one! It seems old and modern at the same time.

Bede Ebenezer - is this a trap?! If so, I'm done for.

Heh. I was trying to go for names that made Bede not feel too dowdy or saint-y, but ones that still played on its academic-ness or warmth. It's a really hard name to pair since it's so abrupt and has the prominent vowel sound. But Bede Ebenezer just popped into my head, and it was all fun! I love the sound of it, I think the repeated ee ties them together really well. I did think of you when I put that one into the list since I know you love Ebenezer. I've been digging it lately, too.
